Richard Smallwood has a song called ‘Trust Me’. In the song, God is speaking and the lyrics are as follows:
I will be with you (3x)
If you will only trust Me
Trust Me, Trust Me
I’ll never leave you (3x)
If you will only trust Me
Trust Me, Trust Me
I’ll fight your battles (3x)
If you will only trust Me
Trust Me, Trust Me
Vamp -
I AM that I AM
I have ALL Power
I WILL deliver
If you will only trust Me
Trust Me, Trust Me
If only we believed that, I mean truly believed it. We often say that we trust God but do we really? The dictionary definition of trust says, ‘reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, surety, etc. of a person or thing; confidence’. God is pleading with us to fully rely on Him for everything! Yet, we can’t seem to take our hands off of our lives. We seem to think God needs our help. I’m completely guilty in this area!
The issue of trust in the life of a believer is more of an issue of belief. What do you truly believe about God? When we look at the two blind men in the Gospel of Matthew, we see that their belief was completely sold out to the fact that Jesus could heal them (Matthew 9:27-29). They followed him around and were relentless in their request, “Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus’ response to them was, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” Without hesitation they replied, “Yes Lord!” Then Jesus touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be to you”. Do you have this type of belief and trust in God?
Or does your belief and trust sound more like that man at the pool of Bethesda according to the Gospel of John chapter 5? At the pool, the angel would come and stir the water once a year and the first person to get in the pool would be healed. The next healing time would come a year later. The man had been laying in his infirmity by the pool for 38 years - yes 38 years. He could not walk and used that as a crutch as to why he couldn’t get to the pool to get his healing.
Sidebar: what’s your crutch? What are you leaning on and using as an excuse not to propel forward in your ministry, vocation, business, etc. What’s holding you back from getting in the pool?
I call it a crutch for this man because even if he couldn’t walk, he had 364 days to roll over to the edge of that pool and be ready when the angel came! As they say, success is where preparation and opportunity meet! Jesus asked the man a specific question: “Do you want to be made well?” Hidden in this question is do you believe this can happen for you? Do you believe that I can do it? Unlike the blind men above this man responded with his excuse: “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up…”
Jesus in essence told the man, I can heal you but this healing comes at the place that your faith, belief and trust in Me is solidified. I believe God is saying the same thing to us today: Who Do You Trust? If you trusted Me, you wouldn’t fear when calamity came. If you trusted Me, you wouldn’t doubt when things become uncertain. If you trusted Me, you wouldn’t try to handle things on your own but rather you would put it ALL in MY Hands!
Ask yourself, ‘Who Do I Trust?’ If your answer is Christ - ACT LIKE IT!
